Eeeeee, DragonCon is almost upon us! Fortunately the only costume I have to finish for myself is Vanellope, but I’m also working on a Magicka robe commission for a friend, so AAAUUUGH!!!
Also I’ve been losing sleep trying to figure out how to get my props there and back. The Portal gun has its own box and packaging and might be able to be checked or taken as a carry on, but I have NO IDEA what to do about the ADAM syringe. I wish we’d had the forethought at the time of building to make it collapsible and with lighter/ less delicate materials than glass and mostly metal.
Oh yeah, I guess since Fanime is now 4 weeks away I should maybe post my cosplay plans! I don’t know what particular days I’ll be wearing each one. I know there’s a Valve gathering and a Bioshock gathering I’ll be busting my hump to make it to. I may even try and make the Adventure Time or Cartoon Network gatherings too, depending on what else I feel like packing.
Here’s my more or less official costume list!
Chell - Portal (not sure 1 or 2 yet. Depends on the @#$^* footwear)
Veronica Madaraki - Franken Fran (my friend Diana is finishing this for me!)
HEY YOU GUYS GUESS WHAT Bioshock: Infinite is out and I can finally show some of the visual development I did for the game! :D Pretty excited over here.
Figured I’d start off with my dress design process for young Liz, since her alternate outfit has been getting a lot of coverage (no pun intended) over the past couple of months. Irrational wanted a period- and age-appropriate look, so that’s what I was aiming for. I’ve got some more stuff I can share out tomorrow, but I didn’t want to overload you guys with art posts. :)
-C, who is definitely picking up her pre-order after work
(Tremendous thanks to Jorge Lacera and the team at Irrational for briefly welcoming me into the fold- as a huge fan of the franchise I was blown away when they hit me up to do some concept work, and it was an absolute pleasure to contribute in even the tiniestway to what is looking to be an amazing game.)
While I’m still undecided on the story (I am a diehard Rapture fan) I’m really digging these outfits! Heck, I’d probably make skirts like most of these just to wear!
Ok, this should be the last Dragon*Con photodump!
Photodump part two from Dragon*Con!
Ok, here’s a general D*C photodump! I know how hard it is to find pictures sometimes, so hopefully these great folks can find themselves!
Here’s some more awesome shots of my Little Sister costume! Shot by Winter Wish Photography. Eleanor is being cosplayed by my friend, Jenna.
Regardless of whether I can bring it or not it’s done! Well, except for the nipple, but minor detail!
EDIT: maybe I should post more nifty details? We followed Volpin’s tutorial as best as we could. It DOES light up! The body and bottle base were painted gold and the other details with a bronze(?) and then rubbed with watered down black acrylic paint. I slathered it on in small areas and immediately wiped it off with a paper towel. The ADAM is karo syrup with lots of red food coloring.
Sneak peek! My dress is all done! I used a cheese grater on the hems and spots like the sleeves and collar. I made yellow stains with tea. The hem was dipped quickly in dark brown RIT dye and scrunched with dye covered gloves. The green and faint blood spatters are watered down acrylic paint.
Now to figure out the wig and makeup. Man, I hate styling wigs.
Oh yeah, LOOK AT MY PRETTY DRESS. The apron’s a tad shorter now and the gaps will be fixed up top, but it’s done! Now to mutilate it.
